REHABILITATION FIGURES FOR

APRIL

TOTAL NEARS £20,000,000

With a new record of £1,510,074 for the month, loan authorisations made by the Rehabilitation Board reached £19,804,240 at the end of April. The month’s figure was £62,317 above the previous record set In March. Of the current total authorisations almost the whole, or £19,082,586, was for men and women, who have seen overseas service £556459 was for former mefnbers of units serving in New Zealand, and the balance, £165,195, for men who had been in the merchant marine, for war widows and dependents. Almost £10,000,000 for Homes

The figures relating to the erection and purchase of houses passed the previous month’s total by some £IO,OOO, to reach £745,462. The total housing loans reached 8523 valued at almost £10,000,000. Of these 2904 valued at £4,023,410 were for new building and 5619 valued at £5,622,566 were for actual purchases. April figures under the same headings were 269 (£380,275) and 359 (£365,187). Included in the housing and farming figures are 4799 supplementary loans worth £727,753, which are designed to bridge and gap between pre-war and current property values. Loans to establish ex-servicemen on farms of their own rose from £530,237 in March to £604,294 in April, during which month they numbered 154. This brought the total to 1005 worth £7,302,067, of which 1963 have been to men with overseas service.

Business loans which during March showed a drop of £24,000 on the February figures, showed another fall, from £108,913 to £91,348 for April. Changes in the minor categories of loans were not noteworthy.
