CHESS ENTHUSIASTS

. EDGECUMBE CLUB MEETING Comfortable accommodation for the newly formed Edgecumbe Chess Club has been obtained by the use of the tearooms owned by Mr J. Free and conditions lend themselves admirably to the conduct of the game. Last week’s games produced some keen play which in view of members lack of practice, augured well for the future. Sufficient sets of chessmen are in use by the club, but with a further enrolment of new members a shortage appears likely. That every effort would be made to maintain enthusiasm was indicated by Mr E. Rogers, President of the Club, when commenting on the establishment of a Ladder Competition and possible trophy games Results of last week’s games were as follows: E. Rogers defeated W. G. Campbell, J. S. Mundy, T. Briggs, A. Marx, L. Martin; A. Teesdale defeated A. Marx, L. Martin; J. Harris defeated E. List, T. Briggs, A. Marx; R. Thompson defeated P. E. Melville, E. Rogers, L. Martin; J. S. Mundy defeated R. Thompson, W. G. Campbell; E. List defeated L. Crystal, W. G. Campbell; A. Marx defeated P. E. Melville; P. E. Melville defeated T. Briggs, L. Martin; L. Crystal defeated J. S. Mundy, T. Briggs.
