FIRE OUTBREAK

P.W.D. HUT TAKES FIRE FLAMES QUICKLY SUPPRESSED Its origin a complete mystery, a fire which broke out in an empty hut at the P.W.D. depot on Valley Road last Friday evening was quickly suppressed before it could do much damage. It was first noticed about 10 p.m. when residents in the vicinity summoned the Brigade, but the fire had been extingished before the reel arrived. The Department is puzzled as to the origin, for the hut had been assembled and completed in readiness to be occupied by Traffic Inspector Sharp, and was empty and locked at the time of the outbreak. Power was not laid on. The damage is how’ever negligible and amounts to the gutting only of a cupboard and a small section of walling.
