ENGINEER CADETS
REHABILITATION AID WAGES TO BE SUBSIDISED DURING STUDIES | As a result of recently completed negotiations, arrangements have been made by the Rehabilitation Board to subsidise the wages of exservice engineering cadets pursuing studies leading to associate membership of the Institutes of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Radio and Structural Engineers. This provides an alternative to full time engineering bursaries at University colleges; and to deal with approval of applications for training under the scheme engineering advisory committees have been set up under the aegis of the Rehabilitation Board at Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch.
The scheme operates under the general plan of the wage subsidies for trade training, and the normal elegioih'ty requirements are same. The maximum period of subsidy is for three years. The trainee cadet’s wage over that term rises from £5 15s to £6 a week.
The share of the wage paid by the employer over the three years, beginning at £2 17s 6d a week, rises each 26 weeks to £5 5s in the tinal six months. On completion of the three years the cadet is to be given employment for at least one year on a wage of £6 a week.
