STRONG EXCEPTION

UNDERMINING HOSPITAL STAFFS WELLINGTON BOARD’S ACTION The strongest possible exception to the action of the Wellington Hospital Board in circularising householders throughout the length and breadth of the country, urging members of the domestic staff to work in Wellington, was taken by the Whakatane Hospital Board yesterday. The chairman (Mr J. Mullins) produced a copy of the circular complained of and declared that it was one of the most unfair things he had seen. Here was an attractive dodger compiled for the extreme purpose of enticing girls from the domestic staffs away from hospitals which were already desperate for help. It depicted the domestic quarters of the Wellington institution with the most modern conveniences and offered to pay the fare of all applicants to the city.. It could only be calculated to cause disconcern in districts not so fortunate.

Dr. Dawson: It has already caused six of our maids to talk of leavig for the purpose of going to Wellington. Oil the motion of Mr Buddie it was decided to write the Wellington Board direct pointing out the serious repercussions which such advertising was having on country boards, and further to communicate with the Association registering the strongest possible protest at the Wellington Board’s action.
