SOCIAL AFTERNOON

GATHERING AT TANEATUA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE FAREWELL On Tuesday, June 4, a social afternoon was arranged by members of the Taneatua Women’s Institute to bid farewell to Mrs J. Adams, who is shortly leaving the district. The afternoon opened with the singing of the Ode to Friendship, after which the guest of the afternoon was presented with a beautiful bouquet—the work of Mrs G. H. Bennett. Competitions, community singing and musical items and a humorous playette by members of the Musical and Drama Circle followed to the enjoyment of all present. The items presented were: Pianoforte solo, by Mrs Peebles, Part-songs by' Mesdames Merrie, Knowles and Bennett and Playette by Mesdames Gardner, Bennett and McDonald. A delicious afternoon tea was dispensed after which Mrs Gardner, in a neat speech eulogised the work of Mrs Adams, and on behalf of the Institute members presented her with a “Wall Motto.” Members of the Welcome Home Committee, on which Mrs Adams had served, were also present and Mrs E. Hill, in a few well-chosen words spoke of her work thereon and presented her with a handsome shoulder spray. Musical honours were accorded Mrs Adams. Mesdames Knowles, Merrie and Bennett then sang “Farewell” after which all joined hands and sang “Auld Lang Syne” the afternoon closing with the National Anthem.
