LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
MONTHLY MEETING INSTRUCTIVE ADDRESS In the absence of Mrs Gow, Mrs Gartshore presided over a very good attendance of members at the last monthly meeting of the League of Mothers. The meeting opened in the customary manner with the singing of the League Hymn -and all joining in the Lord’s Prayer, the League Prayer and the Prayer for Peace. Mrs Gartshore gave the thought for the month “A Word of Encouragement is Often a Spur to Fresh Endeavour.” Speaker for the day was Mrs Hogg who gave a most inspiring address on the Rules and Objects of the League. She emphasised the sanctity of marriage saying it was needed never so much as today. Christian parents had always upheld the sanctity of marriage. As parents members had to live so that they could recommend marriage to their children. On the mother to a large extent rested the responsibility for making the home a place of joy, peace and rest. The speaker asked if members ever stopped to think how much of the atmosphere of a home depended on the wife; if there were not harmony between parents, the family would suffer. Children were not born with character, but the home life and environment had a direct influence on character training. Parents could not alter the past, but they could work at the task of making the home character forming. A home was character forming whatever was or was not done, but parents should aim always at a high Christian character. Hrs Hogg also read .a very able address written by Mrs Bruce Cochran, 8.A., entitled “When Children Grow Up.” Mrs Schofield delighted all present by singing “On Wings of Song” “My Dear Soul” and by playing the first movement of the “Moonlight Sonata.”
Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses and the singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close.
