FOOD FOR BRITAIN
SUBSCRIPTION LIST OPENED
In response to a request from the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre of the N.Z. Red Cross Society, we have agreed to open a subscription list in this paper for that organisation’s drive for donations towards the, ‘Food for Britain’ campaign which will be carried out during the balance of the month.
This scheme assures food being distributed to the needy cases in Britain. Food purchased by C.0.R.S.O. is distributed by U.N.R.R.A. which does not operate in Britain. The Famine _ Emergency Committee despatches food to Britain to maintain the existing ration and to allow of the release of British stocks of food to the famine stricken countries. The food bought wholesale by the Red Cross Society donations is sent direct to the Food Allocation Board in England which distributes where needed to orphanages, old folk, hospitals, schools, etc., where it SUPPLEMENTS, not replaces rations.
All cash donations will be gratefully received and acknowledged from time to time in the BEACON. Every penny will be used to purchase food.
