HOME SERVICEMEN
EASTERN BAY BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual general meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Branch of the Homeservicemen’s Association took place in the County Council Chambers last Thursday evening, a representative attendance of members being present. In his opening address and report, the President, Mr N. Hockin, outlined the activities and progress of the branch during the past year but expressed the need for a greater membership. The Association, he said, was in existence for the benefit of those men who had served within New Zealand, and it could not hope to function to its fullest extent without the wholehearted co-operation of every homeserviceman in the district. The balance sheet disclosed a slight credit balance. The election of officers which then took place resulted as under:— President: Mr N. Hockin. Vice-president: Mr G. Reid. Committee: Messrs. S. Hotene (Maori Representative), S. Armstrong, R. Hunter and E. C, Knowles. Secretary-Treasurer: Mr S. Armstrong. Hon. Auditor: Mr L. R. Spring. With regard to the question of membership, it was resolved that a committee embodying representatives from outlying districts be set up for the purpose of encouraging support from homeservice personnel not already members of the Association/ It was decided that in future members of the Homeservicemen’s Association would take part in the Anzac Day parades in conjunction with other units and organisations. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the president for his work during the year.
