Rod and Gun Club competition In the competition run by the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club in connection with its recent social and dinner, the following winners were anounced: F. Gamble 1 (366), R. W. Hogg 2 (431).

Edgecumbe Hockey Dance The Edgecumbe Hockey Club is busy with arrangements for its forthcoming dance in the local hall on Tuesday, June 11. An effort will be made at this gathering to include as many novelties as possible and generally to mark it as an outstanding night’s entertainment in every way.

May Rainfall The total fall for the past month of May in Whakatane was 5.90 inches. At Edgecumbe it measured 6.55 inches as compared with 9.60 for May lash year. The highest individual fall was recored on the 4th (2.85 inches) and the total for the ye,ar to date is now 23.64 inches as compared with 28.91 for the first five months of 1945.

War Assets Machinery

Notification from the War Assets Realisation Board that a considerable quantity of heavy machinery from the islands in the Pacific War Zone, was now available in Wellington, was received at the County Council meeting on Tuesday. The chairman and engineer (Messrs. J. L. Burnett and C. H. Brebner) were instructed to make an inspection on their forthcoming trip to Wellington and to report back. The Game of Rugby Tfhat game has been plentiful on the’ Rangitaiki this season, was exemplified last Monday at the Rugby football match between Whakatane and Rangitaiki. Several Maori sportsmen were to be seen ambling around the field with their brace of pheasant, neatly, swinging round their necks. The attention of the hundreds of Rugby fans, and the friendly banter they encountered, did not appear to worry them.

Special Entry of Ewes At the Opotiki stock sale on Thursday, Messrs. Dalgety and Co. Kemp, £8 13s 6d, in default 8 days; Sidney Whitworth v V. H. Kemp, £9 16s, in default 9 days; Beacon Printing and Publishing Co. Ltd. v V. H. Kemp, £6 19s 6d, in default 7 days.
