SEVENTEEN LOCAL TEAMS KEEN COMPETITION AHEAD When the first tentative meeting of hockey enthusiasts in this district was called with the idea of launching a local competition this winter, it was not anticipated that the response would be more than pre-war, approximately four men’s and three ladies’ teams. The position today is however that a total of 17 teams •have been formed and are applying for affiliation. This number constitutes an easy record for the Whakatane area and the outcome should mean a much higher standard of hockey than in the past. The secretary reports that apart from six men’s teams, there are no less than eleven ladies teams. We understand that there are still prospects of additional teams coming forward and it is to meet this overwhelming response that an extraordinary general meeting of delegates has been called for this evening in order to re-draft the rounds in the existing xcompetition and to discus? the new status of the game generally in the Eastern Bay.
