ANNUAL MEETING
INDOOR BASKETBALL ASSN.
COMING SEASON’S PROSPECTS
A large attendance of last season’s and intending new members met in the Borough . Council Chambers last Wednesday evening for the Annual General Meeting of the Whakatane Indoor Basketball Association.
Reviewing last season’s activities, the Chairman, Mr A. G. Fisher, stated that owing to the taking over of the Winter Show Buildings by the Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., play had been brought to an abrupt termination, but the firm responsible had seen fit to reimburse the Association for losses incurred, and the result was that it would be possible to commence the new season without any difficulties of a financial nature. Election of Officers
The election of officers for the forthcoming year proceeded as finder:—
President: Mr P. Dixon
Vice-Presidents: Messrs. C. S. Armstrong, R. Morpeth, A. Knights, L. Brown, G. Lodge, C. L. Jordan, C. Kingsley-Smith, J. D. Rivett, Mrs N. Bremner.

Team Competitions
Considerable discussion centred round the holding of team competitions, in view of the increased number of teams immediately available. It was decided to invite entries from teams or individual players, and to commence the first round as soon after opening day, July 3, as was possible. Commenting on this decision, the v chairman stated that there was wide scope for sides representing business houses, sporting bodies and other organisations as well as for individual players. The draw, together with the times set down for the various matches would be published weekly in order that players would know exactly when they were required to take the court. Full Support Offered *
Mr C. Jones, and Miss Nairn, Physical Welfare Officers from Rotorua, were present and offered their wholehearted support. Mr Jones outlined a plan for paying regular visits to Whakatane for the purpose of coaching players, and stated that it was his intention to devote most of his time to less experienced teams. At the same time, both he and Miss Nairn were looking forward to participating as much as possible. Commenting on the game itself, he said that no other sport offered so much enjoyment to the beginner. He deplored current opinion that the game was rough, and said, that proper refereeing, which would be available this year would keep it open and fast. Penalties would be awarded against any player particularly, infringing the rules of bodilycontact with opponents. The chairman closed the meeting after urging those present to lose no time in organising and entering teams, and in publicising the fact that there was ample scope for new players of both sexes.
