ACHILLES ENSIGN
HONOUR FOR SEA SCOUTS GESTURE FROM OFFICERS AND QREW Boys of the Whakatane ‘Achilles’ Sea Scout Crew, will thrill with pride - to learn that the Captain, Officers and Crew of the H.M.N.Z.S. Achilles, now in port at Auckland, have seen fit to present a battle ensign to their unit. The ensign which is beautifully mounted on a 12’ staff and turned base is also ac- ' companied by a brass plate upon which is engraved:— Presented to Whakatane Sea Scouts by Captain, Officers & Ships Co. of H.M.N.Z.S. Achilles May 1946. The ensign, which is in perfect condition was brought to Whakatane by two ratings and handed over for presentation to the Sea Scout Crew on the first available opportunity. This no doubt will take place in the near future, when the public will be invited to attend and when if possible the story of the flag will be released. The great honour bestowed upon the local boys, is probably without precedent in Scouting, and needless to say the flag will become a cherished possession of the Sea Scouts as long as their unit remains in,, the town.
