BOROUGH IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAMME FOR 1946" At the May meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council last Monday evening the following programme of works estimates for 1946 was formally approved:—

Louvain Street: Concrete path one side £140; reseal south west side £4O.

Merritt Street: Concrete path north side £l4O.

Commerce Street: Reseal path from Rock to Domain Road £lB5.

Domain Road: Concrete path south side McAlister Street to Commerce Street £74.

McGarvey Road: Concrete path 3 chains £42.

Domain Road: Concrete path Russell Street to Cadman’s corner south side, 15 chains £135. Eivers Road: Level side road and form path 12 chains £65. Landing Road: Earthwork side level Hawera Street to Hinemoa Street £35; extend concrete path £106; widen and metal road for sealing 130. Victoria Avenue: Lower grade to bridge £95; metal to bridge £130.; sealing £lB2.

James Street: Concrete path extend from Hawera Street to concrete bridge distance 20chs 501 ks £190; kerb and channel north side from King Street extend to Hawera Street £73; side level following kerbing £42.

King Street: Conci’ete path from Stewart Street to bridge Alan Stewart’s £lls. Salonika Street: Extension to Anzas Avenue widen and metal for sealing £BS; sealing 1200 sq. yds £l3O.

Anzac Avenue: Widen and metal for sealing £95; sealing 1500 sq. yds. £lB5. Goulstone Road: Three chains concrete retaining wall down stream from bridge (Valley Road) £95; filling to widen and improve roadway to follow remove trees etc. £3O.

Commerce Street: Concrete path from Short Street to Valley Road bridge £125; extend concrete path lOchs from S. Brown’s towards Pyne’s £9O. Short Street: Concrete path to Domain gate £4O. , Wainui Te Whara Gorge: Fencing when filling is consolidated £l4. Hill Cemetery: Kerbing and channelling £BS; two conveniences £3O; shelter shed £SO; cattle stop and small gate £23; double gate at top £2l.

Hurundi Avenue: Metalling £24. Hillcrest (Wainui Highway): Portion sealing, approximately £2OO. Muriwai Road, Heads: Light metal and first coat sealing to Pilot’s house £220.

Quay Stx’eet: Six chains kerbing £52.

McAlister Street: Kerbing west side from Domain Road £lB5.

Drainage: 24” culvert across Commerce Street at Bisley’s £24; clean drains £24.

Water Supply: Reserves and spare mains £SO; balance Alexandria Avenue job £200; connect Lovelock Street 4” main to Russell Street main £220; complete installation temporary chlorinator plant Wairere £11; clean main reservoir £ls; replace section 8” delivery main at pumping station £BS; replace, repair, and paint F.P. signs £35; conveniences at Rock £700; half-ton truck, approximately £SOO.
