CLOTHING COMMITTEE MEETS
ORGANISING TOWN & COUNTRY A further step in the district activities of the newly created Whakatane branch of C.0.R.5.0. resulted from the first meeting of the Clothing Sub-committee last Monday afternoon, when it was decided to create sewing circles in each representative group, and to commence operations at once. The interested organisations include Girl Guides Junior Red Cross, Women’s Section R.S.A., Lady Galway Guild, St. John Ambulance, Women’s Institute, W.D.F.U. and Registered Nurses’ Association.
It was decided to request the Men’s Committee (Finance) to organise a Clothes Drive in the near future with the aid of the Scouts and the Boys Brigade, and further to request the same committee to supply the necessary packing cases for export. Mrs R. H. Crozier was elected to the chair, and Miss M. Righton to the position of secretary. The general secretary, Mrs J. E. Winstone, reported that already she had been handed donations of £lO from the Registered Nurses’ Association and £6 from Mr Murray, of Otakiri, which would form the nucleus of the branches funds. It was decided to bring the question of the urgent need for materials, remnants etc., which could be made into clothing to the Retailers’ Association, in the hope that such oddments or cut-priced material could be made available for the sew-
ing circles.
