TRIBAL EXECUTIVE
MAORI SOCIAL ADVANCEMENT
NGATIAWA COMMITTEE ELECTED
A very satisfactory and well attended meeting the Ngatiawa Tribal Committee was held in the Toroa Hall on April 29, 1946. The purpose of this meeting was to elect twelve members from the six tribal committees in the Ngatiawa Whakatane district to form a Ngatiawa Tribal Executive and to be the main body under the above heading. Owing to quite a number of applications for positions as Maori Wardens being to hand the appointments will not be announced until a later date. Members duly elected and the Tribal Committee they represent were as follows:
Messrs Kere Wano, chairman (Taiwhakaea); John Keepa, secretary (Taiwhakaea); Fredrick Harawira (Patuwai); 5 Petera Matehaere (Patuwai); James Lawson (Hoko Whitu Atu); Te Keepa (Hoko Whitu Atu); Tipene Hotene (Ngati Pukeko);Romana Ratima (Ngati Pukeko); Taame Tunui (Rangataua); Pirini Merito (Rangataua); Charles Bluett (Wairaka); John Bluett (Wairaka). The above names are being forwarded to the office of the Minister of Native Affairs for approval and gazetting.
