FULLEST CONFIDENCE

FARMERS FAITH IN DAIRY BOARD

MUST SPEAK FOR INDUSTRY Fears that the recently instituted Federated Farmers organisation might seek to supersede the N.Z. Dairy Board as the mouthpiece of the dairy farmers, were expressed by Mr D. Radcliffe, at the conference of the East Coast Ward of the Dairy Association, last Wednesday. The speaker pointed out that on one occasion already the Federation had made an ap-

proach to the Minister, and he

feared a repetition.

Mr A. Linton, Acting-Chairman of the Dairy Board, said that an explanation had been given as to why that approach had been made, and as one who had been partially instrumental in forming the Federaton he had accepted it. However he agreed that there was a danger though the Federation had given its undertaking that the Board would always be respected in future. He added that unless the farmers of this country were united under one federation and spoke with a single voice they would be literally shot to pieces.

On the motion of Mr Radcliffe who declared that he fully believed the time would come when the Federation would challenge the right of the Board, the following resolution was carried unanimously: ‘That this meeting of farmers has the fullest confidence in the present basis of the election of the Dairy Board and its consultation with the industry through Dairy Company Directors, and as the official mouthpiece of the Dairy Industry.’
