WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
GARDENING CIRCLE The April meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute Gardening Circle was held at Mrs Woolfield’s home, Waimana. There was a good attendance of members, and Mrs King presided. Mrs McDonald, Mrs S. A. Eage and Mrs Ducker were welcomed. A discussion on bulbs and how to grow them proved most interesting. Mrs Woolfield also read an interesting item on ‘Clematis.’ A competition arranged by Mrs Woolfield, ‘Making a Posy in a Given Time from Flowers Provided’, was won by Mrs Cooper with Mrs J.
Mitchell 2 and Mrs G. Mitchell 3. After the judging of the posies, Mrs K. Mitchell of Auckland, gave an instructive talk on posy, bouquet and frock and coat sprays, which was greatly appreciated. The day’s competitions were as follows, Mrs McDonald being the judge: Best flower, Mrs King 1; Mrs J. Mitchell 2; Mrs S. Eagle 3. Best vegetable, Mi's S. Eagle 1; Mrs G. Mitchell 2; Mrs King 3. Floating bowl, Mrs Woolfield 1; Mrs S. Eagle 2; Mrs Cooper 3. After afternoon tea had been served by Mrs Wylde and Mrs King members enjoyed a stroll in the garden, which was quite bright with autumn flowers and berries. In closing the meeting Mrs King thanked Mrs Woolfield for the pleasant afternoon spent by all, and also the judges, Mrs Flower, Mrs McDonald and Mrs R. Johnston. The May meeting will be held at Mrs Wylde’s home. ,
