'ACHILLES’ SEA SCOUTS

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Mr Geo. Carey presided at the first annual meeting of the ‘Achilles’ Sea Scouts committee last Wednesday evening, when the past year’s activities were reviewed and prospects of future advancement discussed. The question of securing a boat for the Crew was fully discussed and was referred to the incoming committee for immediate action.

Apologies for absence were received from Comm. N. Matthews and T. Hansen. In his annual report, the chairman referred briefly to the steady progress which had been made, and the remarkable response to the movement by the public generally. The Sea Scouts had definitely become a popular innovation in Whakatane.

Skipper J. Love said that the Crew strength was 18, and that there were prospects of many, new members joining in the near future. He reported on the Rally, and mentioned the good performance of the boys there. He urged that parents co-operate more with the Scouters in the matter of parades. The balance sheet which showed a credit of £lO 5s 4d was presented

and the election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. R. Boon; Chairman, Mr Geo. Carey; Secretary, Mr K. Francis; Committee, Messrs. T. Hansen, J. Jessop and R. King; Auditor, Mr L. R, Spring; De-

legates to Local Association, Mr Geo. Carey and Skipper Love. The appointment of Skipper Love, and Assistants G. West and T. Love were confirmed.

The meeting concluded with an address by the County Commissioner on the aims and objects of Sea Scouting, and also the Training Ship ‘Pamir’ and the forthcoming World Jamboree in 'France next year.
