RED CROSS

Owing to the small attendance of members at the time it was called, the annual meeting of the Edgecumbe Sub-Centre of the Red Cross was postponed, and held in Bell’s Hall on April 3. The president read her report of the year’s activities, and the balance sheet was read by the secretary who showed that after accounting for expenses, donations, etc. the sum of £79 was left as a credit balance.

The resignation of the secretary, Mrs W. Goldsmith was received with regret. A vote of thanks was passed, and a tribute paid to her for the very capable and efficient manner in which she had carried out her duties. The election of officers for the ensuing year then took place as follows, the President and Committee being re-elected: President, Mrs Mexted. Vice-President, Mrs Blair. Secretary, Mrs Jespersen. Committee, Mesdames Roberts, Hawken, Cannell, W. Goldsmith Snr., W. Goldsmith Jnr., and Misses J. Blair and C. Mexted.

The president reported that she had last month despatched a case of 85 garments, and several pairs of footwear to the British Red Cross, London. Several sets of layettes for babies were handed in by members, to be included in the next case of garments to be sent overseas.

The next meeting is to be held on June 5.
