Car Over-Runs Curb An accident which could have had serious results, but which fortunately did not, was witnessed in the Strand on Friday morning, when a car, with several occupants was pulling in to the curb. Failing to stop, it hit the gutter, the front wheels bounced on to the footpath, and the bumper bar struck a pedestrian, a Maori woman, knocking her over. Fortunately she was not seriously hurt, and although badly shaken, was able to proceed on her way after several minutes.

Picturesque Letter A noble attempt to grapple with the English language is evidenced in an appealing letter received in Auckland from the Administrative Council of Charitable Treasury, Triphyliae, Greece. This is it: “Our little town who with so great rich and polite sentiments surrounded you and she was took part the misfortune and the pains of slavery, is now covered with wrecks and mourning. The last drama who safely learned from your friends, it has completed the terribles of slavery. They spread out the illness dangerously and our sicks suffer more from the deprivations. Well, and send you, warm request dear friends to spread out your hands mercifully from the rich and polite your country and you will help our unfortunate ills with medicines and food. Still we pray you as the present transmit in alls who has passed from our town in the philanthropic patriots and in the human associations to send us their aid. With friendly salutations and warm thanks.”
