BURBAGE
GONE TO NEW ZEALAND j An interesting news item clipped I from an old copy of the Wiltshire [Gazette, England, concerning a well known local personality has been [handed to us by a Te Tekd reader. The clipping, which bore the above [headings, reads as follows: ‘On 17 th January, Miss Jean Chandler, of The Street, Burbage, sailed for New Zealand, where she is to marry Major Tunnicliffe, who was for two years with the N.%.. Forestry Company stationed at Burbage. Miss Chandler was for 10 years on the staff at Burbage Post Office, and nobody will ever forget her unfailing courtesy and quiet manner. She belonged to the Tennis Club and the Women’s Institute, and took part in many plays produced in the village. Her family and her friends will miss her terribly, but we cannot help feeling proud that a girl with such splendid qualities has gone to one of the Dominions as a representative of British girlhood. We wish her every happiness in her new life.’
