NURSES DANCE
EXCELLENT HOSPITALITY
CROWD ‘RESPONDS’ WELL A large number of dancers from all parts of the district were ‘admitted’ to the Caledonian Hall recently where the nurses of the Whakatane Hospital, staged their annual dance. The ‘operation’ could be described as having been a complete success, the crowd ‘need(l)ing’ no ‘stimulant’ to join in the fun. The Premier Dance Band wielded the ‘instruments’ and their numbers were in all ‘cases’ popular, particularly those which they played for the old-time dances. As Master of Ceremonies Dr. E. T. Dawson ‘superintended’ proceedings, and succeeded in keeping the ‘temperature’ of dancers at a high level. Two Monte Carlos and a Lucky Spot Waltz were ‘discharged’, the former being won by Mr T. Atkinson Jun. and Miss N. Atkinson, and Mr P, Moore and Miss N. Ranby, and the latter by Miss E. Fyfe and Mr B. Candy.
The ‘pulse’, of the crowd quickened considerably, when supper was announced, for it proved to be ‘just what the doctor ordered.’
Dancing concluded at 1 a.m., and although there was a number of ‘cot cases,’ the crowd dispersed calmly.
