NEW SPECIES OF WASP
A species of wasp which was first noticed about this time last year has again appeared in the Hamilton district this autumn. The type is not known in any other part of New Zealand, and appears to be confined within the boundaries marked by Rototuna and Te Kowhai on the north and Koromatua and Karamu in the south. The greatest concentration of nests has been found near the Fairfield bridge. The apiary instructor of the Department of Agrciulture, Mr C. R. Paterson, destroyed only eight nests last year, but over 70 have been destroyed this year up to date, and more nests have been reported.
