WEDDING BELLS

ROWSON—FIFE A wedding of local interest was solemnised on March 20 at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Whakatane, when Jane May, second daughter of Mr and Mrs G. A. Fife, of Whakatane, was married to Douglas Gordon, youngest son of Mr and Mrs G Kowson, Whakatane. The church had been beautifully decorated by friends of the bride. The Rev. H. M. Bell officiated, and the wedding music was played by Miss R.. Garaway.

The bride who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a charming gown of off-white embossed satin, low waisted with scalloped bodice, and a full trained skirt edged with pleating which also finished the heart-shaped neckline. The sleeves fell to a point over the hands. Her embroidered tulle veil which was worn over her face on entering the church was held in place by a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet of lillies, carnations, pompom dahlias and maiden hair fern, whilst a sprig of white heather was fastened in her bouquet.

In attendance as bridesmaids were the bride’s sisters Misses Francis and Elsie Fife, who were frocked alike in pink embossed cloque, made with full skirts falling from a scalloped waistline, rucked bodice and threeqUarter sleeves. They wore shoulder veils of pink net, and carried bouquets of pink carnations and mauve asters.

The flower girl, Shirley Watts, wore apple green sprigged georgette and carried a basket of pink flowers.

The bridegroom was attended by Mr R. Rowson as best man, and Mr C. Fife as groomsman.

The reception was held at the Commercial Hotel where Mrs Fife received her guests wearing a frock of navy cloque and navy accessories and carried a posy of autumn flowers. She was assisted by Mrs Rowson who wore a navy silk frock and matching accessories and carried a posy of mauve stock and pink dahlias.

The happy couple later left by car, the bride travelling in a pink embroidered frock ultramarine blue coat and navy blue accessories.
