WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

TANEATUA MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taneatua Women’s Institute was held in the supper room of the local hall on Tuesday last, Mrs Gardner presiding. The meeting opened with the Ode to Friendship and Mrs Bennett read

the Aspirations, after which the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Remits for the annual Council meeting to be held in Whakatane on May 1 were discussed and Mrs Gardner and Mrs Butler were appointed as delegates. The appointment of a delegate to the conference which is to be held in Wellington in July was deferred until the next meeting. It was decided to hold a dance on May 6 if the hall were available. The roll call “School Boy Howlers” brought forward some very humorous true stories.

I The Taneatua team of choral speakers who won that event at the j recent Eisteddfod then presented the poem “Apple Blossoms.” Mrs Frost and Mrs Adams, judged the competitions as follows: Best flower, Mrs Butler 1; Mrs A. Tebbutt 2. Plum jam, Mrs Bennett 1, Mrs ! Grey 2. Scones with shortening, Mrs Tebbutt 1, Mrs Fogarty 2. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Frost, Fogarty and Tebbutt. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.
