FINAL RETURNS
QUEEN CARNIVAL RESULTS
PRINCESS JOSEPHINE NOW QUEEN Returns to hand this morning show that the total received by the Central Committee reached the remarkable figure of £7058. The Queen of the Carnival is now Princess Josephine of Matata with the grand total of 52,900 votes. Princess Ellen of Te Teko comes second on the list with 49,900 votes and Princess Pamela of the Young Veterans Committee (Whakatane) third with 38,364 votes. In the Borough the two competing Princesses were instrumental in raising no less than £l9lß, and the individual figures for each candidate were Princess Pamela 20,950, and Princess Beverley 17,414. There was great excitement last Saturday evening when the results of the County Princess campaign in the R.S.A. Queen Carnival were finally determined as all funds were handed in and the various district funds were assessed. Details of the placings were as under:— Ist Princess Josephine (Matata) 42,900 votes—£7ls. 2nd Prineess .Ellen . (Te .Teko) 40,640 votes—£lol6. 3rd Princess Kathleen (Edgecumbe) 25,506 votes—£l222. 4th Princess .Nancy . (Taneatua) 16,317 votes—£7l3. sth Princess Betty (Awakeri) 14,518 votes—£4B3. 6th Prineess Ivy (Otakiri) 10,190
votes—£2l2. The above with Thornton’s donation of £94 with the proceeds (net) from Saturday’s Race Meeting of £695, brings the grand total from the County up to £sl4o—a truly magnificent effort!
