RUGBY PROSPECTS
WITH most of our senior players now restored to the district, there is every prospect of Rugby this season reaching a much higher standard than during the war years. Tomorrow evening the annual meeting of the Whakatane Rugby Union takes place in the County Council Chambers. All interested, and this applies particularly to the local businessmen who on the whole have been rather slow in supporting New Zealand s national game, are invited to attend and lend some encouragement to Rugby’s resuscitation. There are some auhorities who predict a ‘boom’ in the grand old game in this the first of postwar years. Whakatane must be prepared to fall in line with other centres if this is the case and only by a concerted effort of businessmen and residents can this be achieved.
