Nerve Pains of Amputees “There are people who say that artificial limbs are so well made today that returned men who have lost a limb do not suffer any great disability, but the people who say that are generally people who have all their limbs,” said Mr W. Bell at a meeting of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council. Mr Bell said that, apart from any other handicap, people with an amputated limb suffered periodically from severe nerve pains, for which medical science did not appear to have found any remedy.
Vegetables For Hospital Notice that his contract to supply vegetables to the Whakatane Hospital would be terminated as from July next was served on the Board at its meeting on Thursday, by Mr J. Harris and was referred to the Finance and Works Committee to go into with power to act. Discussing the matter of working the Board’s garden by wages, Mr Buddie said that he would never agree to this method again. It was quite impossible to do the job satisfactorily on a 40-hour week and from his experience the contract system was the only workable proposition. ♦
