R.S.A. CARNIVAL

SEMI-FINAL FIGURES CLOSE COMPETITION EXPECTED In the County section of the Queen Carnival, at present being held in support of the R.S.A. Memorial Appeal Fund, the position of candidates as it stands immediately prior to the race meeting at Te Teko tomorrow, is as follows: Princess Kathleen (Edgecumbe) 9100 votes Princess Josephine .. (Matata) .' 9000 votes Princess Nancy (Taneatua) 6587 votes Princess Ellen (Te Teko) 5320 votes Princess Ivy (Otakiri) 2821 votes Princess Betty (Awakeri) 1500 votes Basis of Votes

It should be noted, that the votes above registered, although indicating the true position of the field, are not based on an equal value. The committee realised that if the value of the votes in each district were the same, some would not have a chance of having their candidate declared a County Queen. It was approved therefore, that the votes should be based on a percentage, the same as that used in allocating the Patriotic quotas. The value of one vote in each district is as follows:

Edgecumbe ll|d Taneatua 10£d Awakeri 8d Te Teko 6d Otakiri 5d Matata 4d

When the Princess Carnival expires at midnight on April 13, the two leading Princesses become County Queens and will compete against one Queen from the Borough. The value of the votes in the case of the two latter candidates, is 1/-. At midnight tomorrow, the balance of any funds in the hands of the County Committee will be divided between the two selected County Queens on an approved basis. The race meeting takes place at Te Teko tomorrow, and can be guaranteed to provide a full day’s fun for all who are attracted to the Sport of Kings.

Borough Candidates Following is the present position of Borough Candidates: — Princess Beverley (Businessmen’s-Old Diggers) 10,266 Princess Pam (Young Veterans) 8109
