MYSTERIOUS GLOW
LIGHTS OFF OHOPE PHENOMENON ON FRIDAY MORNING What appeared to be the glow of a ship either on fire or giving off considerable flashes of light was noted by several Ohope residents between 3 and 4 a.m. last Friday morning. One lady, who watched the unusual phenomenon for nearly three-quart-ers of an hour stated that the light was so strong when first she woke that she noticed the pale glow reflected on her window. The seat of the illumination appeared to be well out at sea, and it was difficult, in the darkness to estimate any approximate distance. A peculiarity lay in the fact that the light appeared to wax and wane at times spreading right across the skyline, and then fading to an almost indistinguishable point.
As far as can be ascertained, there is no explanation offering as to the origin or cause of the phenomenon.
