The Rotorua representative cricket team selected to play Whakatane at the Kuirau Reserve on Saturday and Sunday will include Godsalve (capt.), Curtis (City-Albion), Hobbs, Ryan, Higgins, Sherriff (Old Boys), L. Dixon, Hooper (Kahukura), Laurence, Rose, Spedding (R.S.A.) Reserves: Drury (Old Boys), Dansey, Garner (High School). The manager is Mr J. J. Lewis.

Holdsworth Sub-division Following a conference with Mr Wright of the Lands and Survey Department regarding the formation of the subdivision of the Holdsworth Estate at Edgecumbe, it was reported at the Whakatane County Council meeting that the owners had agreed to forgo the ‘T’ subdivision and to substitute it with a through road which would overcome all-objections. The new scheme was formally agreed to and dedication agreed to providing the full roading costs were borne by the Crown.

How Green Was My Valley The pastures on the Rangitaiki Plains are once again taking on their familiar appearance of greenness and prosperity, after having been baked hard and brown for weeks on end during the recent drought. The steady rain at regular intervals followed by warm sunshine over the past few weeks has been eminently suitable for bringing pastures away, and present indications are that the -disastrous summer will continue tobe followed by a consistently good autumn. Everywhere on the plains, paddocks which a few short weeks ago were being blown away as a fine dry sand, are now showing excellent signs, one particularly noticeable area being along the Awakeri straight, where green fields are fast replacing the apparently useless burnt up acres caused by the drought.
