In the Bag
How much indeed, does the presence of a sugar bag with something bulky inside arouse the curiosity of all who notice it. The other day, one of the Super Sleuths attached to the Beacon had cause to walk up the Strand carrying a sugar bag. which bulged at the bottom. Within a distance of one hundred yards, he was accused separately of having in his possession concealed liquor, a body, several kittens, a hot scoop, and of course the inevitable old and hackneyed one about having got the sack. If truth must be told, the bag contained nothing more nor less than the said Super Sleuth’s various disguises, with which he is enabled to steal up unsuspected on all manner of news—hot, lukewarm, and yesterday’s—without being detected. The importance of such disguises may be readily seen by the fact that only yesterday, the said S.S. had occasion to transform himself re-
spectively into a beetle, a doormat, a cigarette butt, a social security form, and His Worship the Mayor.
