ENJOYABLE SHOOT
WHAKATANE CLUB’S DAY
Members of the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club had an enjoyable day recently when two trophy shoots were staged in the course of an interesting field day on the club’s property at Piripai. Details of the events were as under: —
Eye Opener: M. and F. Matchett, S. Ker, W. Kenyon, J. Penny tied and divided the stake.
Five Bird Sweepstake: A. Powdrell and H. Jackson tied with the possible.
Quail Drive: S. Luttrell, M. and F. Matchett tied.
Junior Championship: S. Hirst, J. Plamus, R. Bluett, J. D. Rivett tied and in the shoot off (first miss out) Hirst beat Rivett.
Lodge Cup (25 contestants): S. Ker 1, S. Luttrel 2. Novelty Points Shoot: A. Powdrell and H. Jackson tied 1, J. D. Rivett 2. Gimcrack: J. Plamus, S. Hirst, M. Matchett and H. Jackson tied with the'possible. In the shoot off J. Plamus won.
AC CLIM ATIS ATION
LIBERATION OF PHEASANTS Recently through the instrumentality of the. Whakatane Rod and Gun Club some 150 young pheasants were liberated in this area. The birds which were all young and particularly healthy were spread over the following districts: Wainui, Waimana, Kopuniki, Tarawera, Taneatua, White Pine Bush, Awakeri, Edgecumbe and Thornton.
