WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

OTAKIRI MONTHLY MEETING The Otakiri Women’s Institute met in the Otakiri Hall with a large attendance of members. Mrs Armstrong was in the chair. After the singing of the Institute song “Comrades and Friends.” Mrs Armstrong welcomed Mrs Withy, V. 0., saying how the Institute appreciated the way she had always endeavoured to attend when invited and how encouraging it was to feel that even through the recent years progress had been maintained. A bouquet was presented to Mrs Withy. Mrs Withy replied saying that much of the success was due to the able leadership of Mrs Armstrong. Mrs Armstrong and Mrs G. Murray were then presented with shoulder sprays. These were to have been coupled with Long Service Badges but owing to a delay in arrival they will have to be presented next month.

Mrs G. Murray thanked the Institute members and praised Mrs Armstrong and also the Secretary, Mrs Cristall, for their efforts. Mrs Armstrong was re-elected to the chair. An election then took place for the committee, several new and keen members being elected.

Prizes were then presented for the year’s competitions as follows: General competition, Mrs Peck 1, Mrs Armstrong 2, Mrs Missen 3. Best flower, Mrs Missen. Best vegetable, Mrs Lord. -

Monthly competition: Best 3 Zinnias, Mrs Jessup 1, MrS Missen 2, Mrs Gilbert 3. Best embroidered supper cloth, Mrs Mackrell 1, Mrs

Peck 2, Mrs F. Mayo 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Peck 1, Mrs Irvine 2, Mrs Lord 3. Cheese straws, Mrs Cristall 1, Mrs Gilbert 2, Mrs Carr 3. Best flower, Mrs Lord 1, Mrs G Murray 2, Mrs Winters 3 The stall competition was won by Mrs Peck

A donation of £1 was made to the Dominion Federation and a donation of £1 10/- was made to the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation

Afternoon tea was then served and the meeting closed with the National Anthem
