WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

TANEATUA ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual meeting of the Taneatua Women’s Institute was held in the hall supper room, Mrs Gardner presiding over a fair attendance of members. Mrs Stewart, of Whakatane, was present. After routine business had been dealt with shoulder sprays were presented to Mesdames Gardner, Peeb-i les and Stewart as small gestures of appreciation for their work over the year. A spray had also been made for Mrs G. Merrie a former very good member of the Institute, now resident in Auckland and visiting the district to be present at the anniversary celebrations. As Mrs Merrie was unfortunately unable to be present her spray was forwarded to her.

Final arrangements were made for the Eisteddfod to be held in Whakatane on March 28. Mrs Gardner was chosen as the Taneatua nominee for the Executive Committee.

Mrs Stewart gave a short talk on Institute matters stressing the necessity for Institute members to stand behind and assist the President . to the fullest extent.

There being no other nominations Mrs Gardner was re-elected President, and the folowing committee was elected: Mesdames Moore, Anderson, Kempton, Grey, Tebbutt, Buller, Fitchett, Peebles, McDonald, Hayward, Doran and Miss Hills. Competitions Secretary: Mrs Butler. Press Correspondent: Mrs Grey. Points competitions for the year were won by Mrs Kempton (General) and Miss Hills and Mrs Hayward tied for the best flower competition. A sales table was held for Institute funds. Monthly competitions were won as follows: Best flower, Mrs Butler 1 Zinnia), Mi’s Doran 2 (Belladonna Lily). Three pieces of apple shortcake, Mrs Kempton 1. Three carrots, Mrs Butler 1, Mrs Kempton 2.

The committee served afternoon tea and the meeting concluded with the National Anthem.
