AWAKERI W.D.F.U.

MONTHLY MEETING The Awakeri branch of the Women’s Division of "the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting in the Awakeri Hall on February 26. Mrs Haultain presided over a good attendance of members who enjoyed the innovation of an evening meeting.

After business and correspondence were attended to, the following remits were framed for discussion at the coming provincial meeting: (1) That the Government be asked to abolish the Sales Tax on children’s clothing, and on household appliances. (2) That the Government be urged to provide accommodation for single country school teachers. (3) That the rules re the payment of the first 30/- of the housekeeper’s wages be altered.

The month’s competition results were: Best fruit, Mrs McKenzie 1, Mrs Wilson 2, Mrs McGougan 3. Best flower, Mrs Brizzle 1, Mrs Allan 2, Mrs E. C. Haultain 3. Best vegetable, Mrs H. Jensen 2, Mrs McKenzie 2, Mrs Allan 3.

Supper concluded, a pleasant meeting.
