OUTBREAK OF FIRE

DWELLING IN KING STREET HOME PARTIALLY GUTTED A four-roomed dwelling in King Street, the property of Miss Daphne Brunton, was partially gutted by fire shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday night. The house was empty at the.time .of the outbreak, the origin of which is not known. The siren was sounded from the Kopeopeo alarm box, and when the Brigade arrived the fire already had a good grip on the rear portion of the building and in the roof. ' Two leads of hose were run out, and the Brigade was able to save the two front rooms, although the ceilings in both instances were burnt out.

It is not yet known whether the building was insured. It is understood that the sounding of the alarm for a short period half an hour or so after the fire can be put down to a technical fault.
