FARM DRAINAGE RELIEF RATEPAYERS FIRM STAND ■ After having approached the Whakatane County Council last July for the erection of a 20ft. span bridge to replace the culvert now serving his property and which had the effect of damming back the flood waters on his farm, Mr H. S. Mexted of Thornton intimated through Cr Hunter to the Council that he would give it one week in which to make a start in the proposed improvements, and after that would resort to legal proceed-
ings. Cr Hunter said that he had every sympathy with Mr Mexted, who had definitely suffered heavily last flood. He was prepared now however to agree to a 12ft span provided the Council would commence the job. The Engineer said that the matter had been held in abeyance until plant had arrived to do the work.
The timber was now on hand and he was awaiting instructions. It was decided to write Mr Mexted pointing out that the matter had not been overlooked and that the engineer was instructed to make up estimates for a 12ft. span bridge providing he was prepared to put his agreement to this measure in writing.
