WAIMANA NEWS
WELCOME HOME DANCE A welcome home dance was held in the Waimana Hall recently in honour of a number of members of the. Maori Battalion who have arrived home from overseas. Opportunity was also taken to welcome Private M. Tipping who returned with a recent draft.
The hall was well filled with dancers from surrounding districts. The Waimana orchestra supplied the dance music and Mr M. Angus capably acted as M.C. Mr Les Robertson was doorkeeper. A bring and buy stall and competitions were held during the evening.
After supper, Mr Burnett in his usual capable manner asked the guests to come forward and accept a gift from all present as a small appreciation of what they had done for their country in the years of war. Mr Burnett wished them every success in their civilian life.
Several of the guests suitably replied and thanked all for the gifts and the pleasant evening accorded them. Dancing continued until midnight, when the National Anthem closed the function.
