POPULAR MAORI SPORTSMAN AIR 808 AKURANGI! The many friends he has made in both the Whakatanc and. Opot’iki districts will regret to hear that Air Bob Akurangi ? avcll known figure at gymkhanas and sports meetings throughout the Bay of Plenty } is leaving the district in the near
future and will be taking up residence in Rotorua.
For a number of years } Air Akurangi has been one of the leading sjiortsmen among the Maori people' in . the Bay and his. name lias lighred in many reports of sports meetings where ho accumulated honours both as a horseman and an athlete. In
liis earlier he also took a keen interest in boxing ) swimming and many other forms of sport and his advice and coaching has always been deemed invaluable by beginners. Air Akurangi spent some tAVo and a half 'years overseas Avith an armoured division in the earlier part of. the war ? and since his return j has taken perhaps not quite so full a
part in the world of sport as he did in pre-war days. The last gymkhana at which lie will be competing ber i'ore leaving the district will he the one lo he held at Te Te’ko on February 23.
