WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

THE WHAKATANE BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Whakatanc Women’s Institute was held in the Methodist Hall on February 5 Mrs King vice-president presiding over a fair attendance of members. The meeting opened with the Insti-i tute song. The Aspirations followed. The thought for the day “The greater ihe obstacle the. more glory in overcoming it.” Apologies were received from several members unable to attend.

Nominations were received for the committee for the forthcoming year. Mrs Carter sang “A Little Coon Prayer” enjoyed by all. A demonstration on wool rug making Avas given by Mrs Print and proved \ r ery interesting and instructive. The Roll Call “School Boy Howlers” Avas aa t cll responded to and caused much amusement. A reminder was gh r en of the forthcoming Eistcdfodd which 1 ,, is being held in Whakatanc on March 28. A cake Avas raffled and Mrs Dodds AA-as the lucky Avinner. Competitions- for the day AA T erc : (A) Patch work apron Mrs Fennell 1. (13) Oire large Dahlia. Mrs Fennell 1: Mrs Comer 2. (C) Airs Hanna 1; Mrs Patterson 2.

Afternoon tea Avas served by the hostesses and the singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close.
