EASTERN BAY CENTRE “ROLL CALL” CAMPAIGN The Eastern Bay of Plenty Centro of the N.Z. Red Cross Society held its quarterly meeting in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday ? February 12 at 11 a.m. Mrs Sullivan Avas. absent and Mrs L. B. Smith took the. chair.
The main object of the meeting was to approve final plans for the “Roll Call” campaign for membership Ist to 31st March. It was to be regretted that this clashed with the final month of the. R.S.A. Appeal. Postponement had been discussed at the executive meeting f hut decided against as the “Roll Call” was to '> , , .operate over the whole Dominion simultaneously. Also it had been planned for nearly a year. However it was felt the R.S.A. should have the matter explained. Mrs Winstone had rung Mr L. ed her it would be quite and the R.S.A. would kelp the Red
Cross Society if they could. Regarding the request sent to the Patriotic Committee asking for Red Cross representation on the committee of the Welfare Fund of approximately £RLOOO (owing to the thousands of pounds Red Cross had raised for the Patriotic Funds);, a reply had been received from Mr Lucas stating that it had been decided that the Welfare Fund would be admiral istered by one representative each of the Red Cross R.S.A. and Patriotic Committee. Mrs Sullivan was appointed to represent the Society,
Plans were, discussed for the. Roll Call and it was decided to hold a Church Parade on Sunday j March 3 for the V.A.D. and Junior Red Cross. The Red Cross building is to be opened on Saturday, March 9 ; with a short ccremony 5 opening with a dedication service. The Mayor } Mr to lie asked to preside } and it was hoped a representative from. Red Cross Headquarters would be present. Tauranga Centre has acteepted an invitation to send sentatives. Local bodies and the general public will be and the building thrown open for inspection, afternoon tea will be serv,ed and members asked to bring a plate.
Donations towards the Building Fund of £lO each from Tancatua and Edgecumbe were received and £ls, promised from T'e Teko. £lO was donated to the Hospital Library Trainees Fund, and it was decided to increase the quota to the League of Red Gross Society, it is hoped to £lO. The annual meeting of the Centre to be held on May 1.
’ Whakatane Branch
A meeting of the Whakatane branch Avas held in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday, February 12 at 2 p.m. Mrs L. Buddie presiding. I
The Red Cross plan Avas approved and arrangements made for supplying afternoon tea at' the building opening ceremony.
Mrs Moran reported she. had packed and despatched 930 garments for Lady Galway Guild. For British Red Cross Mrs Winstone had packed and despatched -578 garments just before Xmas.
Mrs Buddie reported that just over £7B had been made at thie Xmas appeal, and a sum of £4 l4s 6d’ hafc been donated;, to the Red Cross by the children of the Paroa School. The following- donations were approved: League of Red Cross Societies £l2; Corso (for relief teams to Greece) £25; Xmas cheer at hospital (already donated) £5; Appeal for destitute children from International Red Cross £2O 5s 6d plus Paroa School donation £4 14s 6d, £25; A total of £67. It Avas also decided to donate three annual subscriptions for magazines to the Whakatane Hospital. This concluded the meeting.
