Earthquake Memories
Last Sunday was the fifteenth anniversary of the great earthquake disaster in Hawke’s Bay. On February 3 } 1931 } the town of. Napier experienced the heaviest earthquake in New Zealand’s history. All twostoried houses and buildings in the town were flattened ancf fires raged. Landslides occurred around, the harbour and the bluff w r as carried away. There were over 1000 casualties at Napier ? including over 100 killed. Twenty-one deaths were reported from Hastings'.
