100th Anniversary

The 100th anniversary of the arrival on the north bank of tire Grey River of Thomas Brunner and Charles Heaphy will fall on May 22. The two pioneer explorers set -out from Nelson on March Brunner was subsequently appointed chief surveyor for the province of Nelson and in recognition of his exploration was awarded the medal of the Royal Geographical Society. Heaphy served with distinction in the Maori wars ? during which he was decorated for conspicuous gallantry.
