A motion of sympathy to the family of the late Mrs F. J. Appleby was passed yesterday at the meeting of the Whakatane Hospital Board. .At the Borough Council meeting last Monday evening Cr H. G. Warren was duly elected to fill the va.eancy on the Whakatane Harbour Board caused by the resignation of Mr G.’ R. Kent.

At the meeting of the Whakatane Hospital Board yesterday the chair-' man Mr J. Mullins extended the 5 » ? Board's cordial congratulations to the secretary Mr Frank Prideaux ( on his inclusion in the New Year’s Honours list when he was awarded the 0.8. E.

We regret to record the passing of. Mrs F. J. Appleby, which occurred last Wednesday. The late Mrs Appleby was the wife of Dr. F. J. Appleby and. was for many years associated with the social life of the community. The greatest sympathy will be extended to her bereaved family. A full obituary notice will appear in next issue.
