REGENT PREVIEW

‘SONG OF BERNADETTE’ Some twelve months ago, a convention of theatre managers from all parts of New Zealand was held in Auckland. One picture was selected for a special preview—a preview before an entirely male audience of experienced critics. . That picture was ‘Song of Bernadette.’ For once in a all critics were unanimous in their approval. It was a great picture: no other words could describe -it.

‘Song of Bernadette’ has been booked for a four-day season in Wliaka-* tane, commencing on Saturday, February 9. As in nearly every great picture, there arc scenes both emotional and sad. ‘Song of Bernadette’ is no exception, but such sequences are not dwelt upon and are incorporated only so often as is necessary to the cohesion of the story.

The film concerns a young peasant girl Bernadette Soubirous, in whose life one shining moment threw out 9 a bright ray of hope faith and inspiration that even today illumines the world. The story has been brought to the screen with •«, depth, power and scope that only the living force of the screen can create. ‘Song of Bernadette’ does not need publicity. Many have read for themselves Franz Werfels literary masterpiece, and all will acclaim its dramatic picturisation.
