OPOTIKI SHEEP FAIR Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., report having held tlieir first Sheep Fair of the season on Monday Fell- ■ 9 ruary 4. As a result of the jirolonged dry weather and the consequent limited demand lor stock j it was considered advisable to offer only a portion of the usual yarding the balance being held over until weather conditions improve.
Practically the whole of the sheep offered came forward in good order and met with consistent competition throughout from local farmers j and also a number of buyers from the Te Whalcatane and Rotorua districts; with the result that with the exception of one or two pens of wethers the yarding changed hands at prices which, having regard to present conditions must be considered very satisfactory from the. vendors’ point of view. Following is a range of prices realised : Good 4th wethers 24s 6d to 255; medium 4th wethers 21s to 225; good 2th wethers 20s 4d to 22& 3d (the latter .price being realised for a line of 172 from the property of Mr A. E. Gellert at Wairata); medium 2th wethers 17s lOd to 19s: small 2th wethers 14s 3d to 10s; good Syr ewes 20s to 20s 6d; medium Syr ewes 16s to 17s 9d; small M.A. ewes to 17s 4d; medium 2th ewes 21s 9d; small 2th and 4tb ewes 15s to 20s; 6yr ewes 13s to 17s; aged ewes 9s 6d to 10s 9d; good shorn wether lambs 13s to 14.5; small B.F. lambs 11s 7d to 14s 3d; cull iambs 7s to 9& 3d; 1-shear Romney rams 2gns to 4gns; 1-shear Southdown rams 7gns to Bgns; aged' rams 2% gns.
