Recent visitors to Whakatane were Air George Tancred and Mr Alaurice AlcCarten of Sydney. They were accompanied by Mr Owen AlcCarten of Hawera. Messrs McCarten and Tancred visited New Zealand primarily for the yearling sales at Trentham and were quite large purchasers at that fixture. They tlien proceeded to Whakatane in which town Mr Tancred was very interested. Twenty-five years ago he owned a farm at Edgecumbe and also the Edgecumbe butchery. While here he visited his old farm and the katane Paper Mills. Messrs McCarten and Tancred also visited the Tuhoe Stud at Waimana. They noticed great changes in both town and countryside but unfortunately owing to the hot dry weather prevailing did not see the Bay at) its best. Both gentlemen asserted that the heat experienced in Whakatane would seldom be exceeded in Sydney. Tancred Bros, own two large freezr. ing works on the Queensland border, and, a large chain of butchers simps, while Air AlcCarten is a very prof! minent trainer in Sydney.
