Owing to the non-arrival of an essential part of the plant, it ivill not now be possible to institute the free milk service to pupils at the Whakatane Primary School as planned. It is hoped, however that this will be possible by March 1. Red Cross Society Members are reminded that the next meeting will be held in the Borough Council Chambers on February 12 at 2 p.m. Discussion will include the organisation of the Dominion wives “Roll Call” and the future work of the Society, particularly in connection with CORSO. A full attendance will be appreciated . Wairere Falls Still Running A somewhat surprising feature of the present drought is the manner in which the Wairere Falls at the rear of the town are maintaining their volume of water. In less severe dry spelts the falls have been known to disappear altogether, and yet it is singular to note the steady undiminished How still pouring over the lip of the stone cliff.

Boys Band at Heads on Sunday The Whakatano Boys Band will be giving an open-air concert programme on Sunday next at the Heads at 2.30 p. m. Ice Cream Weather As the result of the long and continued heat mid-al'ternoon ice creams seems to have become the accepted thing in many business houses. Few afternoon shoppers do not leave for home without first having an ice cream refresher whilst school kiddies scm to be finding it particularly hard to keep cool. One small Maori gild we noticed in the Strand yesterday, with two pink threepenny cones. She was eagerly munching at the first Avhilst she contemplated the second. Evidently, id her case, she was either twice as hot as usual or she wanted to make sure she didn’t reach that temperature.
